Quomi Libaas Sew-Off 2020: Creativity Meets Tradition
During the COVID-19 lockdown, Johar’s Place under the umbrella of Daeratul Aqeeq | Iqtesadiyah Umoor launched the first-ever Quomi Libaas Sew-Off, encouraging Muminaat to explore their creativity while embracing sustainability. The competition provided a unique opportunity for participants to upcycle their used ridas into innovative, new designs, transforming them into refreshed outfits or entirely new products.
This initiative was designed not only to inspire artistic expression but also to promote repurposing and sustainable fashion, encouraging participants to think beyond traditional designs and explore new possibilities for their ridas.
The Challenge:
- ✂️ Participants were tasked with recycling and upcycling an old rida, giving it a new purpose.
- 🧵 We requested that the ridas should be altered, embellished, and completely transformed into something fresh and marketable.
- 📸 Final creations were submitted online for judging and community voting.
The Winners & Prizes:
🏆 Critics’ Choice Award – Selected by a panel of judges, awarded $100
🏆 People’s Choice Award – Voted by the community, awarded $100
This competition was a wonderful display of talent, creativity, and innovation, proving that even in challenging times, our community thrives through artistry and collaboration.
💜 Thank you to all the talented Muminaat who participated and made this event a success!
